Brooklyn Storytelling Pop-up
After starting the pop-up "Burger Babes" in Shanghai, China, Phoebe Tran and Rénel Sun moved to Bushwick for the summer in 2015 to open UMi Bushwick. Meaning "ocean" in Japanese, UMi is meant to represent travels and inspirations the two friends have experienced together while overseas.
With taste, texture and food design in mind, UMi Bushwick is a pop-up that crafts the perfect late-night food -- bunwiches -- chip encrusted brioche buns filled with ingredients inspired by places lived in or traveled to. In support of a healthy, local food ecosystem, each bun is made from scratch with quality ingredients. For instance, organic and locally grown Farmer Ground Flour is used to craft the buns along with Ithaca grass-fed butter and Finger Lakes pastured eggs.
Each month the menu rotates to include a new bunwich inspired by travels, taste and texture.
